A two-year-old boy in Hanoi was tragically caught in an escalator at a shopping mall, miraculously escaping serious injury. Two escalator metal plates pierced his foot, causing severe trauma. Fortunately, after surgery, he is recovering and his mental state is stable.
The incident occurred on February 15th at a Hanoi shopping center. While riding the escalator, the toddler accidentally got his foot caught between two moving metal plates. His family immediately noticed and called emergency services.
The escalator’s large metal plates pierced the boy’s left foot. Recognizing the urgency, the mall’s technicians quickly intervened to rescue him. He was rushed to the 108 Military Central Hospital with the metal still embedded in his foot.
At the hospital, surgeons from the Upper Limb and Microsurgery Department performed surgery to remove the metal plates. Dr. Nguyễn Quang Vịnh, the treating physician, explained that the injury was complex, penetrating soft tissue and causing bruising and oil contamination.
Thankfully, after three days of surgery, the boy’s wound is healing well, and his mental state is stable.
Following the incident, Dr. Nguyễn Quang Vịnh offered crucial advice for parents. When taking children to crowded places, especially those with escalators, constant vigilance and close supervision are essential.
Besides cautioning against escalator dangers, parents should also be aware of other potential hazards, such as machinery, household appliances, and domestic tools that could injure children.
The Upper Limb and Microsurgery Department at 108 Military Central Hospital frequently treats accident victims, including those injured by escalators and household machinery.
In the event of an accident, maintaining composure, providing initial first aid, and quickly transporting the victim to the nearest medical facility is crucial.
Tips for Safety: To ensure your child’s safety, constantly supervise them when near escalators or other potentially hazardous equipment. Never leave children unsupervised in potentially dangerous areas.
