According to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), the city saw 212 measles cases across 30 districts, wards, and towns from April 4th to 11th, with no fatalities reported.
Several districts reported higher numbers of cases: Nam Từ Liêm (46), Long Biên (17), Hoàng Mai (16), Tây Hồ (12), Hà Đông (11), and Đống Đa, Thanh Trì, Thanh Xuân (10 each).
The CDC attributes the increase in measles to a lack of vaccination or incomplete vaccination among affected individuals, particularly those over six years old, and anticipates a continued rise in cases.
In 2025, Hanoi has recorded a total of 1,665 measles cases in all districts, wards, and towns with one fatality. This figure is higher than the same period in 2024 (0 cases/0 deaths).
Hanoi also reported 191 hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in 26 districts, wards, and towns, and 108 communes, with no deaths. This represents a decrease of 12 cases compared to the previous week (203 cases, 0 deaths).
The cumulative total for 2025 stands at 976 cases, with no fatalities, a rise compared to 2024 (585 cases/0 deaths). Cases are distributed across all 30 districts, wards, and towns.
Five HFMD clusters were identified during the week: Ba Vì (2 cases), Nam Từ Liêm, Phúc Thọ, and Hoài Đức (1 case each). In 2025 so far, Hanoi has experienced 18 clusters, with 9 still active: Nam Từ Liêm (4), Ba Vì (2), Hoài Đức, Hà Đông, and Phúc Thọ (1 each).
Two dengue fever cases were reported with no deaths, a reduction of 4 cases compared to the previous week (6 cases, 0 deaths).
In 2025, there have been a total of 207 dengue fever cases and no fatalities, a decrease compared to 2024 (570 cases/0 deaths). Cases were scattered across 28 districts, wards, and towns. No new clusters were reported this week, and one cluster from 2025 has concluded.
A case of meningococcal disease was reported in Thanh Xuân Bắc, Thanh Xuân. The patient, a three-month-old male infant who had not received the meningococcal vaccine, developed symptoms (high fever, fussiness, poor feeding) on March 29th and was admitted to the Central Pediatrics Hospital on March 30th.
Meningococcal meningitis was confirmed by cerebrospinal fluid analysis. The patient’s condition is currently stable.
Four cases of tetanus were reported in adults in Chương Mỹ, Bắc Từ Liêm, Mê Linh, and Quốc Oai, with no fatalities. The total for 2025 stands at 9 cases, 0 deaths, an increase from 2024 (5 cases/0 deaths).
Other diseases like whooping cough, swine flu, and Japanese encephalitis were not reported this week.
Hanoi CDC is collaborating with district and ward authorities to improve data management, record keeping, and reporting of dengue fever cases, particularly in Hoàn Kiếm, Quốc Oai, Nam Từ Liêm, Phú Xuyên, Phúc Thọ, Đống Đa, Hoàng Mai, Sóc Sơn, Tây Hồ, and Thạch Thất.
District, ward, and town health centers will continue to monitor and administer measles vaccinations to eligible children, focusing on those aged 6 months to under 9 months and 1 to 10 years old who have not received the full two-dose series.
