On April 20, 2025, a national scientific conference titled “The Great Spring Victory of 1975 and a New Era of Vietnam’s National Development” was held in Ho Chi Minh City (HCM City). This event was organized by the Ministry of National Defense in collaboration with the Central Committee’s Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and the HCM City Party Committee.
In his opening remarks, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, emphasized the conference’s significance as a crucial part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam. He noted the opportunity to reflect on the nation’s unwavering spirit and express deep gratitude to the preceding generations.

At the conference, leaders, experts, academics, and historical witnesses presented analyses and insights into the significance of the Spring 1975 victory and the country’s future development towards prosperity and strength.
On behalf of HCM City, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen noted that 50 years ago, on April 30, 1975, the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign concluded with victory, marking a significant milestone in Vietnam’s struggle against foreign aggression.
“It was a day when the nation was united, the homeland achieved peace, ushering in a new era of independence, reunification, and socialist construction. This victory embodies the spirit of unity, firm will, and the burning aspirations of the entire people, Party, and army,” stated Mr. Nguyen Van Nen.
He further explained that over the past 50 years, the HCM City Party, government, armed forces, and people have worked tirelessly alongside the nation to build and defend the country, contributing to national industrialization and modernization efforts.
HCM City has proactively implemented key national strategies and policies, preparing itself to enter a new era of national rejuvenation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen asserted that the city is defining its future in a new space and with new resources, aiming to be a global city characterized by intelligent, modern, dynamic development, integration, green growth, sustainability, social cohesion, and expanding global civilization, incorporating the best values of Asia and the world.

“We have and are continuing to implement the tasks to mobilize national unity and harmony, maximize investment in building and developing HCM City to meet national expectations and uphold the sacrifices of past generations,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Van Nen.
HCM City will implement a comprehensive set of strategic breakthroughs focusing on infrastructure development, science and technology, innovation, green and digital transformation, human resource development, and restructuring the political system into a more efficient and effective one.
