The HCM City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Expressway, stretching over 60km, is one of the key transportation projects connecting southern provinces. This expressway not only shortens geographical distances but also opens up comprehensive opportunities for economic and social development in the Southeastern region and Central Highlands.
Scale and Importance of the Project
The HCM City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Expressway is designed with a six-lane scale and a speed limit of 100 km/h. It is the first expressway linking HCM City to Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc, connecting with the Gia Nghia – Chon Thanh Expressway to create a seamless transportation corridor up to the Central Highlands.

In phase one, the project will be developed with a four-lane scale, a road width of 25.5 meters, and continuous emergency lanes. The total investment is estimated at approximately 20.8 trillion VND, implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Completion is expected within 36 months from the effective date of the contract.
Role in Driving Economic and Social Development
This expressway plays a significant role in promoting economic and social development in the regions it passes through:
- Regional Connectivity: The project creates a convenient transportation corridor between HCM City, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, and the Central Highlands, reducing pressure on National Routes 13 and 14.
- Urbanization: The construction of the expressway will expand urban and industrial spaces, particularly in Binh Duong, which hosts many large industrial zones.
- Investment Attraction: Modern infrastructure will attract more domestic and foreign investors, contributing to sustainable economic growth.

Additionally, when the Chon Thanh – Gia Nghia Expressway is completed, it will further connect to the Central Highlands, creating strong regional links and supporting economic and social development as well as national defense security.
Allocation of Funds and Implementation Progress
The project is divided into three main sections passing through HCM City, Binh Duong, and Binh Phuoc, with varying levels of investment:
- HCM City: Investment in the 1.7km access road, funded by about 2 trillion VND from public investment funds.
- Binh Duong: A length of over 52km (including 45.6km of new expressway and 6.5km overlapping with DT743), with a total investment of about 17.4 trillion VND.
- Binh Phuoc: Construction of nearly 7km, with a total investment of about 1.474 trillion VND, including central and local funds.
The consortium of investors includes Becamex IDC, Becamex IJC, BCMC, and the Dau Phat Group—reputable and experienced companies in infrastructure development.
In December 2024, Binh Phuoc Province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project, marking an important start. According to the plan, the project is scheduled to be completed by 2026, meeting the growing transportation needs of the region.
Conclusion
The HCM City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Expressway is not just a modern transportation project but also a symbol of rapid development in the Southeastern region. With its potential for regional connectivity and economic and social development, the project promises to bring positive values, contributing to the realization of the government’s goal of 5,000km of expressways by 2030. Let’s look forward to the positive changes this expressway will bring in the future!
