HCM’s 2.6 Billion VND Project for Disabled Children

This project aims to improve the rights and quality of life for disabled children in Ho Chi Minh City. With a budget exceeding 2.6 billion VND, it’s expected to create positive change within the community.

Project Goals and Scope

The project, initiated by the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Welfare Association in partnership with the Danish Vietnamese Association (DVA), received approval from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on January 23rd. The primary goal is to raise community awareness of the rights of disabled children and provide them with opportunities for comprehensive development. The project focuses on testing effective intervention methods to identify the specific challenges and needs of disabled children.

Key Project Activities

The project will provide essential services for disabled children, including:

  • Scholarship support: Enabling access to education and broader development opportunities.
  • Healthcare: Providing necessary medical services to ensure children’s physical well-being.
  • Specialized equipment: Supporting daily life and educational activities.

Perspective of the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Welfare Association

Ms. Lương Thị Thuận, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Welfare Association, highlighted the difficulties faced by many disabled children in their daily lives and the ongoing social stigma they experience. The project aims not only to improve their material lives but also to eliminate social prejudices and create an inclusive and equitable environment for them.

Project Coverage and Timeline

The project will be implemented over 12 months in wards 14, 15, and Hưng Phú (District 8); and wards 1, 14, and 19 (District Bình Thạnh). The over 2.6 billion VND budget will support project activities.

Project Expectations

Ms. Lương Thị Thuận anticipates that this pilot project will spread positive change throughout the community. Crucially, the project relies on input and support from families and the local community to ensure long-term sustainability and effectiveness. Representatives from District 8 also proposed supporting families with disabled children, aiming to improve their economic situations and better child care.
