Recently, at the 37th meeting of the Hưng Yên Provincial Party Committee, the 2023-2030 plan for restructuring administrative divisions at the village level was approved. The plan aims to reduce the number of villages by 100, representing a 71.9% decrease from the current count.
Currently, Hưng Yên has 139 administrative village-level units, including 13 wards, 8 towns, and 118 villages. Post-restructuring, the province will have 39 units, consisting of 6 wards and 33 villages. This means 7 wards, 8 towns, and 85 villages will be merged.
Many historical and familiar village names, such as Khoái Châu, Phố Hiến, and Tiên Lữ, will be retained and used for the newly formed wards and villages. This restructuring encompasses all 10 districts, towns, and cities in the province.
The new administrative units will be formed by merging three or more existing units. Specific examples include:
- Hưng Yên City (3 wards, 1 village)
- Mỹ Hào Town (3 wards)
- Ân Thi District (5 villages)
- Khoái Châu District (5 villages)
- Kim Động District (4 villages)
- Phù Cừ District (4 villages)
- Văn Giang District (4 villages)
- Yên Mỹ District (4 villages)
- Tiên Lữ District (3 villages)
- Văn Lâm District (3 villages)
Importantly, the plan outlines three new village-level administrative units formed from merging villages across different districts:
- Mễ Sở Village (Văn Giang District) merging with Bình Minh Village (Khoái Châu District)
- Hoàn Long Village (Yên Mỹ District) merging with Đông Tảo Village (Khoái Châu District)
- Tân Hưng Village (Hưng Yên City) merging with Thủ Sỹ Village (Tiên Lữ District)
The Hưng Yên Provincial People’s Committee believes this restructuring will streamline administrative operations, enhance government efficiency, better serve local residents, and meet the evolving developmental needs of the region.
