VNeID (short for “Vietnam Electronic Identification”) is one of the most popular and important applications on users’ smartphones, containing crucial information that can replace hardcopy documents such as Citizen ID cards, driver’s licenses, health insurance cards, and more.
Many people often use biometric features (fingerprint, face recognition) instead of traditional passwords for quick login to the VNeID app. However, this can lead to forgetting your VNeID account password and being unable to log in to VNeID if you reinstall the app on your smartphone or switch to a new smartphone.
Below are solutions to help you in case you forget your VNeID app login password.
Requesting VNeID Password Reset via Personal Information Verification
Follow these steps to request a VNeID login password reset directly from the app and receive a verification code via your phone number:
- First, launch the VNeID app on your smartphone. From the login screen, tap “Forgot Password”.
On the next screen, enter your Personal Identification Number (your Citizen ID card number) and phone number. Below, select “Enter verification information”, then tap “Send request”.
- Next, fill in your personal information in the corresponding fields, including full name, date of birth, Citizen ID card issuance date, and tap “Continue”.
If the information you provided is accurate, a verification code will be sent to your registered phone number. Enter the received verification code into the field to confirm.
- Finally, the VNeID app will allow users to create a new password and confirm it. Tap “Confirm” to authenticate the new password for your VNeID account.
Note: Users must create a password between 8 and 20 characters long; it must contain both lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and at least one special character from the following: “! @ # $ ^ * ( ) _”.
After completing the new password creation, you will be redirected to the VNeID login screen. You can now use your new password to log in to the app.
Requesting VNeID Password Reset by Scanning Chip-Enabled Citizen ID Card
In addition to the method above, you can request a login password reset for the VNeID app by scanning your Citizen ID card via NFC protocol on your smartphone. Readers can follow these steps:
- First, launch the VNeID app on your smartphone. From the login screen, tap “Forgot Password”.
On the next screen, enter your Personal Identification Number (your Citizen ID card number) and phone number as instructed above, but select “NFC verification with Citizen ID card” below, then tap “Send request”.
To perform verification using a chip-enabled Citizen ID card, your smartphone must support NFC. Currently, most smartphones support NFC connectivity.

After completing the Citizen ID card verification step, a verification code will be sent to the user’s phone number. Enter this verification code and proceed to create a new password for your VNeID account to log in to the app.
