“Why such a devastating loss? Conceding six goals is unbelievable. It’s hard to believe what the Indonesian U17 team showed in the quarter-finals,” commented Chaturong Wongcharoen from Thailand on the Asean Football page after witnessing the surprising 0-6 defeat against North Korea U17 in the U17 Asian Cup 2025 quarter-finals in Saudi Arabia on April 14th.

Indonesia U17 was highly anticipated going into the match against North Korea U17, having won all three group stage matches, most notably defeating South Korea U17 1-0.

However, Coach Nova Arianto’s team underperformed in the quarter-finals, falling behind 2-0 in the first half. The second half saw no improvement, with Indonesia U17 conceding four more goals and exiting the tournament.

Despite the heavy loss, the Indonesian team can take solace in being the only Southeast Asian team to reach the quarter-finals and secure a spot in the upcoming November World Cup.

“Indonesia U17 has returned to its true potential. The reason they qualified for the World Cup was due to an easier group. They were proud to beat South Korea, but they were utterly defeated by North Korea U17. Disappointing,” Syarifah Sharika from Malaysia expressed.

“It’s alright, Indonesia U17, you’ve done great. The road is still long ahead. Keep improving for the U17 World Cup in November,” commented Aarai from Myanmar, offering encouragement.

“Though they lost to North Korea U17, the crucial thing is their qualification for the World Cup. They are the only representative from Southeast Asia, so we need to support them instead of criticizing them,” said Siti Qinan Rahayu from Singapore, advocating support.

“I can’t recognize Indonesia U17 in this quarter-final match. However, qualifying for the World Cup is already a success. The young players have also tried their best,” Cao Minh Quân from Vietnam expressed sympathy for Indonesia U17’s heavy defeat.

“If you win, you’re celebrated; if you lose, we still support you. Thank you, young players, for fighting to reach the quarter-finals. This is valuable experience. Keep your spirits high and gather energy for the upcoming World Cup,” Indonesian fan Haryono Harupa Myviva affirmed.
