On February 4, Mr. Tran Van Thu, Director of the Nam Tra My District Health Center in Quang Nam Province, confirmed that authorities are urgently investigating the unexplained deaths of three children in Tra Leng Commune. The incident has caused public concern and raised significant issues about local healthcare services.

Details of the Incident

According to Mr. Thu, on January 29-30 (the first and second days of the Lunar New Year), two children, N.H.D. (born in 2018) and N.T.T. (born in 2022), children of Mr. N.V.T., residing in Village 3 of Tra Leng Commune, passed away. Both children had diarrhea, but their family did not take them for medical care despite advice from local health workers. As a result, the children succumbed to dehydration and exhaustion.

Another unexplained death was that of H.D.K., the child of Mr. H.V.T., also from Village 3 in Tra Leng Commune. Local health authorities in Quang Nam Province are currently working with the Nam Tra My District People’s Committee to determine the cause of these deaths.

Child Health Situation in the Area

According to reports from the Nam Tra My District Health Center, from January 31 to February 2 (the third to fifth days of the Lunar New Year), the Tra Leng Commune Health Station received eight children with symptoms of fever, cough, and rashes. The district health center sent officials to supervise and encouraged families to bring sick children to the commune health station or the district health center for timely treatment.

From before the Lunar New Year until February 4, the Nam Tra My District health sector treated 43 children born between 2013 and 2024 who exhibited symptoms of fever and rashes. Currently, 29 children are still being treated at the district health center and the Tra Leng Commune Health Station, though their conditions have stabilized.

Support Team Conducting Investigations

On February 4, a team from the Quang Nam Provincial Center for Disease Control visited Tra Leng Commune to monitor, verify, and assist the Nam Tra My District Health Center and Tra Leng Commune Health Station in professional tasks. The investigation aims not only to clarify the causes of death but also to examine epidemiological factors related to children’s health in the area.

Conclusion and Recommendations

The unexplained deaths of three children in Tra Leng Commune serve as a wake-up call highlighting the importance of raising community awareness about healthcare, especially for young children. Parents should proactively take their children to medical facilities when unusual symptoms are detected to prevent tragic outcomes.

Authorities need to strengthen efforts to educate and disseminate medical knowledge to residents in remote areas while ensuring adequate healthcare resources for on-site diagnosis and treatment. Readers can follow further updates on community health developments at [COCC-EDU-VN].
