The first two episodes of the series Newtopia have aired. In it, Jisoo stars alongside actor Park Jung Min. This is her second attempt at acting after the TV drama Snowdrop.

However, viewers have not been kind to Jisoo’s performance. The 30-year-old beauty has faced criticism for her acting, which some find unnatural. Some comments suggest that she overacts, especially in emotional scenes.

On the other hand, there are those who defend Jisoo, noting that compared to her previous project, she has made significant progress, particularly in her ability to convey emotion through her eyes.

Newtopia tells the story of the tumultuous romance between soldier Lee Jae Yoon (played by Park Jung Min) and office worker Kang Young Joo (played by Jisoo). Before Jae Yoon leaves for his military duty, they promise each other marriage. However, the long-distance relationship leads to conflicts.

The film has garnered attention for its unique blend of romance, horror, and humor. Currently, Newtopia holds the record for the highest number of viewers in the history of the online streaming platform Coupang Play.

The series has also received high praise from audiences. On IMDb, the ratings for the first two episodes are 8.8/10 and 9.6/10, respectively.

Jisoo (born 1995) gained fame for her beauty and singing abilities. She officially joined YG Entertainment in 2011 and debuted as a member of Blackpink in 2016.

Among the four members of Blackpink, Jisoo’s family background is the most intriguing. According to sources, she is reportedly the daughter of a prominent figure with significant influence in the Korean media industry.

Many reports suggest that her father is the CEO of a major entertainment company or television station in Korea. However, Jisoo has never confirmed these claims.

In addition to her achievements with Blackpink, Jisoo has also made strides in her solo music career. In 2023, her song Flowers became a global hit, amassing half a billion views on YouTube.

As the eldest member of Blackpink, Jisoo is known for her passion for acting. She was praised for her suitability for the screen, and in 2022, she starred as the lead in Snowdrop.

In 2023, she took on a supporting role in Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman and co-starred in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint alongside Lee Min Ho, Ahn Hyo Seop, and Nana.

Beyond singing and acting, Jisoo has also hosted several Korean television programs. She is frequently chosen as an ambassador by international brands. Considered the wealthiest member of Blackpink, she has an estimated net worth of $20 million.

In 2024, Jisoo will join her brother’s entertainment company after ending her contract with YG Entertainment. Unlike the other members of Blackpink, Jisoo has focused more on acting and recently returned to music.

On February 14th, she will release a new mini-album titled AMORTAGE, marking her return after a two-year hiatus. Additionally, the 9X generation singer has announced plans for an Asian tour, including a stop in Hanoi.
