Koo Jun Yup Forgoes Inheritance Rights to Protect His Stepchildren

On the evening of February 6th, Koo Jun Yup shared his heartfelt emotions regarding his late wife and clarified some misunderstandings.

He acknowledged that he is going through immense pain and cannot find the words to express it. He also emphasized that the three years he spent as husband to Elva Hui were truly invaluable and irreplaceable.

He wrote: “Firstly, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who mourned Elva Hui. I am experiencing sorrow and pain beyond words. This is overwhelming. It is a painful time, and I have no strength to say anything, nor do I wish to.”

The South Korean DJ stressed: “The time I spent with Hy Viên is irreplaceable by anything in this world. It is a precious gift, and I want to protect everything she cherished. That is the least I can do. Once again, I thank and mourn everyone in our family.”

Regarding the inheritance of his wife’s assets, the South Korean singer stated that he would not accept anything and that all of Elva Hui’s estate would be given to her mother.

“As for the children, I don’t want any malicious individuals to get close to them. I will use the law to ensure they grow up safely,” the singer wrote.

The South Korean singer also requested that everyone refrain from actions that might disturb his late wife’s peace.

In his letter, the South Korean music star mentioned excessive actions: “Some people pretend to be grieving and run around in the rain. Others deliberately damage our family’s image by spreading false information about insurance and finances, causing us harm. I truly cannot believe such evil exists.”

At the end of January and beginning of February, Koo Jun Yup accompanied Elva Hui on her trip to Japan, witnessing her illness and eventual passing.

On February 5th, he and his family brought her ashes back to Taiwan. The family decided not to hold a funeral and kept the urn at home.

Elva Hui’s friend, actress Julia Ji, told Taiwanese media that Koo Jun Yup nearly collapsed and cried while trying to wake his wife during her final moments. He eventually accepted the situation and gave her a final kiss.

Koo Jun Yup is Elva Hui’s second husband. They dated in 1998 but had to part ways as Koo Jun Yup focused on his career. Afterward, Elva Hui married while Koo Jun Yup remained single for many years.

In 2022, they reconnected after nearly 24 years apart. Elva Hui and Koo Jun Yup got married in Korea in February 2022 and held a private ceremony in Taiwan in April 2022.

Becoming Elva Hui’s husband revitalized Koo Jun Yup’s entertainment career, leading to more invitations to events and shows in Taiwan.

Elva Hui often praised Koo Jun Yup, calling him a gentle and kind man who made her feel safe.

In response to Korean media, Jun Yup once spoke about his relationship with Elva Hui: “I want to continue the love with the woman I loved 20 years ago. I am grateful that after 20 years, she accepted me again. My goal is to spend the rest of my life ensuring she is happy, healthy, and loved. I will always accompany the woman I cherish, treasuring every moment. Together, I hope we can live a joyful life.”

Elva Hui (born 1976) is a Taiwanese actress and singer known for her roles in Meteor Garden, War God, Summer Bubble… Since 2011, she focused on a private life to care for her family.

Elva Hui was married twice—first to businessman Tony Yang and then to Koo Jun Yup. She has two children from her previous marriage.

Elva Hui passed away on February 2nd during a family trip to Japan due to complications from the flu and pneumonia. Her sudden departure at the age of 49 left fans and colleagues heartbroken.
