The Lang Nu Village resettlement area, located in Phuc Khanh Commune, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province, spans 10 hectares and includes 40 stilt houses, communal facilities, and a school. It was officially inaugurated on December 22, 2024, more than three months after a devastating flood on September 10, which claimed 60 lives and left seven people missing.
Busy Preparations for Tet
As the Lunar New Year approaches in 2025, residents of the Lang Nu Village resettlement area are busy preparing for the holiday by making sticky rice cakes, decorating, and cleaning their homes. Despite the somber atmosphere due to the loss of many loved ones in the flood, the community’s unity and support have helped them overcome difficulties.
Local Government Support
Mr. Hoang Van Diep, head of Lang Nu Village, stated that 33 households have moved into the resettlement area. To boost morale, local authorities have visited and gifted items to those who were particularly affected, such as war veterans and struggling families.
“We believe that with the support from the entire nation, the people of Lang Nu will come together and quickly rise again,” Mr. Diep shared.
New Life in the Resettlement Area
Mr. Vang Seo Chu, head of Kho Vang Village, Bac Ha District, shared about the evacuation of 115 villagers to higher ground during the September floods. Currently, all 35 households with 180 residents have moved to the new resettlement area, and life is gradually stabilizing.
“The new resettlement area is about 5km from the old location and has been equipped with many amenities, so the villagers are very pleased,” Mr. Chu said.
Tet 2025: A New Beginning
As Tet approaches, residents of the resettlement area are organizing a traditional sticky rice cake boiling and a year-end dinner. Although moving to new homes has brought changes to daily routines, most residents feel optimistic with the support from the government and the Party.
Conclusion
The Lang Nu Village resettlement area is not just a new home but also a symbol of resilience and unity. With support from the government and the community, its residents are rebuilding their lives and looking forward to a brighter future. Tet 2025 will mark a hopeful new beginning for the people of Lang Nu.
