Driving License Issuance Situation in Long An

The annual demand for driving licenses in Long An ranges from 35,000 to 45,000 per year. In 2023, approximately 43,500 licenses were issued. However, in 2024, there has been a sharp increase in the number of new competency test applicants and license renewals. As a result, the Department of Transport approved the printing of nearly 60,000 licenses, representing a 35% increase over the previous year.

Solutions to Address the Shortage of Driving Licenses

To address the shortage of driving licenses, early in 2024, the Department of Transport signed a contract with the Vietnam Highway Administration to procure license blanks. By January 10, the unit received all the required license blanks. Individuals who passed the competency test before January 1 have now been issued their licenses and handed over to training centers.

After printing on the blanks, the licenses will be synchronized with the transport ministry’s license management system. When cross-referenced with national population data, the information will be integrated into the VNeID app used by the police.

Causes of the License Backlog

Previously, from May 2024 to August 2024, the Department of Transport owed more than 10,000 driving licenses to residents. Many individuals who passed the competency test could not use their vehicles due to the lack of licenses. The primary cause of this backlog was the shortage of printing supplies, including ink, intermediate film, cleaning cards, blanks, and protective films.

Conclusion

Resolving the driving license backlog in Long An not only meets the essential needs of residents but also demonstrates the efforts of relevant authorities in improving public services. Residents can rest assured that the license issuance process is now stable and efficient.
