A day after finding his missing son, Đ.B., a resident of Ngoc Long Commune, Yen My District, Hung Yen Province, still had a shaky voice. The father called it a miracle when the boy was found curled up asleep with the family dog near the riverbank.
Around 1 a.m. on February 14, young T. woke up to get some milk. Moments later, Đ.B. and his wife panicked when they realized their son hadn’t returned to bed, and the front door was wide open.
Throughout the freezing night, the father and relatives searched tirelessly for the boy. “It was a night of despair for my family,” the man recalled.
Đ.B. noticed that the family dog, which usually played with his son, was also missing. He guessed the dog had followed T., holding onto hope that “if the dog is with him, he’s safe.”
At dawn, the father received news that T. had been found sleeping with the dog in Lieu Xa Commune, about 3-4 kilometers from home. An early-morning fisherman spotted the boy lying next to the dog, just 3 meters from the riverbank.
When several concerned people approached to cover the boy with clothes or carry him to warmth, the dog barked loudly, refusing to let anyone touch its “little master.”
Finally, an elderly woman gently said, “Let me take him home to feed him,” and the dog allowed her to pick up the boy.

Đ.B. shared that the dog, about 3 years old, was gifted to the family six months ago. When he brought the dog home, he introduced it to T., saying, “This is your master.”
The boy, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bonded closely with the dog. The father recounted how inseparable the two were; the boy often climbed onto the dog’s back to play. Every evening, the dog stayed close to its “master,” not letting strangers come near.
“Therefore, when my son went missing, I believed the dog followed to protect him. If the dog came back alone, it would mean something bad happened. But if the dog was still out there, my son was safe. This dog might be the most precious gift for my son,” Đ.B. emotionally said.
Đ.B. and his wife work as scrap collectors. Their busy schedule sometimes caused them to overlook their son. After this incident, he reminded his wife to keep a closer eye on T. to prevent him from wandering off again.
In an interview with Dân Trí, a leader of Ngoc Long Commune People’s Committee confirmed that Đ.B. and his wife are scrap collectors renting a place in the area. In the early morning of February 14, their son and the dog wandered from Ngoc Long to Lieu Xa Commune.
“The boy was discovered by local residents, who informed authorities. His family was contacted, and he was safely reunited. The child’s health is stable,” the official stated.
Previously, social media circulated a video showing the boy being found with the dog near the riverbank. The boy slept soundly beside the dog in a thicket of trees and banana bushes.
According to witnesses at the scene, the boy couldn’t recall his parents’ names. Some locals brought milk and blankets to warm him while trying to contact his family.
