Commercial and sports lawyer, Nik Erman Nik Roseli, firmly stated that the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) decision to suspend its former General Secretary was merely a “ploy,” based on written arguments presented by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The issue arose after the world football governing body expressed its “dissatisfaction” with FAM’s suspension of General Secretary Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, who was immediately suspended from duty in October.

“It seems like a mere charade. The suspension was carried out simply to demonstrate that FAM had taken action. In reality, FIFA stated they were ‘shocked and disappointed’ with FAM,” Nik Erman commented.
“FAM has yet to clarify who is truly responsible. Based on the players’ statements, it appears to be a case of ‘I don’t know, I work with the agent, and the agent works with FAM.’ They haven’t specified who they contacted within FAM. The players also stated in the decision that FAM was the party that approached them and their agent. So, who exactly is this agent?” he questioned.
Nik Erman also emphasized that escalating the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) would be inappropriate, as FIFA’s presented arguments could further damage FAM’s reputation.
“Legally, my advice is that there’s no need to appeal as there is no reasonable basis. However, for those who still wish to pursue the matter, they can take it to CAS. But from a professional standpoint, it’s unnecessary because there’s no valid reason to bring it before CAS,” he added to an Astro Arena reporter.
FIFA is demanding that authorities in five countries—Argentina, the Netherlands, Spain, Brazil, and Malaysia—investigate alleged document forgery involving seven naturalized Malaysian players, which is considered an international criminal offense.

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, stated that she has fully entrusted the investigation of the matter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN). She noted that the case falls under KDN’s jurisdiction and believes that the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, will soon provide an official response.
“The criminal aspect falls under KDN’s responsibility, so we have handed it over to them. I have also contacted the Home Affairs Minister but have not yet received a response. We need to give Datuk Seri Saifuddin time to review the issue before providing an answer,” Hannah Yeoh said.
Today (November 20), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will hold a full session in Parliament, where the 2026 Budget related to KBS’s portfolio will be discussed.
“All these matters will be answered tomorrow, and I do not wish to elaborate further during today’s press conference,” she stated at Nadi Arena on November 19.
