Previously, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) failed in its appeal to FIFA. Seven naturalized Malaysian players, including Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel, had their one-year bans upheld by FIFA.
Each player was additionally fined 2,000 Swiss francs (approximately 66 million VND). FAM was fined 350,000 Swiss francs (approximately 11.6 billion VND) by FIFA. The Malaysian national team risks being disqualified from the 2027 Asian Cup.

FAM still has a chance to overturn the decision if they win their case against FIFA at CAS. However, it is currently unclear whether FAM has officially filed an appeal with CAS.
Malaysia’s New Straits Times wrote: “FAM is still waiting for FIFA. Their stance is to only appeal to CAS once FAM receives a full written explanation from FIFA regarding the sanctions against the naturalized players.”
“Meanwhile, Malaysian fans are eagerly, yet anxiously, following FAM’s response to the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” the New Straits Times added.
In another article, the same newspaper commented: “Malaysian football is facing a crisis after the sanctions from FIFA.”
“A major storm sweeping through Malaysian football is brewing externally. Internally, what is the atmosphere like within the Malaysian national team? Coach Cklamovski and the players are trying to maintain focus, showing unity and determination,” these lines were also written in Malaysia’s leading English daily.

According to Malaysian media, in recent days, since Coach Cklamovski’s team (an Australian of Macedonian origin) gathered, team members have been instructed not to answer questions regarding FIFA’s ruling on the naturalized players. Malaysian players and Coach Cklamovski have only discussed technical and tactical aspects of the national team.
Another Malaysian newspaper, Astro, stated: “Public opinion is questioning whether Malaysian football will abandon the fight to protect the legality of the seven naturalized players.”
“FAM has not reacted yet. They remain secretive about information, not clarifying whether they have filed an appeal with CAS,” Astro further reported.
In reality, the deadline for FAM to submit its appeal to CAS has not yet ended. November 13 was merely the last day of the 10-day period during which FAM requested a written explanation from FIFA regarding the decision to sanction the naturalized players.
After November 13, FAM still has 21 more days to file an appeal against FIFA with CAS. The New Straits Times of Malaysia also confirmed this information.
