On January 21, the Dak Lak Center for Disease Control announced a rabies-related death. The victim was Mr. N.V.N., 70, residing in Hamlet 3, Ea Pil Commune, M’Drak District, who had years of experience trading dogs.

According to his family, Mr. N. began showing symptoms such as high fever, fear of wind, and fear of water on January 17. He was taken to Thien Hanh General Hospital for examination. By January 20, he was transferred to Tay Nguyen Regional General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with rabies.

Later that afternoon, the family decided to take him home, but he passed away during the journey.

The family reported that Mr. N. had been bitten on the hand by a dog two years ago but did not receive a rabies vaccination. Due to his profession, he frequently interacted with dogs and had been bitten or scratched multiple times without seeking proper medical attention.

This is the second rabies-related death in Dak Lak this year. The incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of rabies vaccinations, especially for those who regularly come into contact with animals.

Rabies is a dangerous infectious disease transmitted through bites or scratches from infected animals. Timely and complete vaccination is the most effective way to prevent this deadly illness.
