Tension Erupts at Sash Ceremony
The Miss Universe 2025 competition began on November 2nd, but only a few days later, a series of controversies marred the image of the prestigious beauty pageant.
The climax was a heated argument between Fátima Bosch and Mr. Nawat at the sash ceremony on November 4th. According to US Today, Mr. Nawat allegedly spoke harshly to the Mexican beauty queen when she refused to participate in a photo shoot for a sponsor.

The Thai businessman was accused of using derogatory language before Fátima Bosch stood up and left the hall. Immediately after, the reigning Miss Universe and several other contestants also walked out, causing the event to be halted midway.
Speaking after the incident, Fátima Bosch affirmed she had no regrets about speaking up. “I am stronger than ever. I have a purpose and I have many things to share. We are living in the 21st century and I am not a doll who just knows how to dress up, make herself pretty, and change clothes according to others’ wishes. I participate in the competition to voice the thoughts of all women around the world who are fighting for their own goals,” she stated.
Wave of Support for the Mexican Beauty Queen
Immediately after the incident, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) issued a statement reprimanding Mr. Nawat, stating that his actions “disregarded the value of women.”
The President of MUO emphasized: “Mr. Nawat’s words were offensive, disrespectful, and completely contrary to our mission – to celebrate, protect, and empower women.”

The incident between Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil and beauty queen Fátima Bosch not only caused a stir within the competition but also attracted attention from the international entertainment and fashion industries.
A series of international media outlets such as People, New York Post, Hola Magazine, Kursiv Media… all simultaneously reported on and criticized Mr. Nawat’s inappropriate behavior.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell left an enigmatic comment: “You all maintained your dignity, while the other person is burying their reputation.”
Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios (from Nicaragua) also expressed a strong opinion: “Since this year’s competition began, every day we wake up to surprises. Miss Universe has always been a place to honor the voices, talents, and influence of women – girls who believe in their ability to change society.”
She condemned Mr. Nawat’s public humiliation of a contestant, deeming it unacceptable: “The contestants are not just participants; they are women representing their countries, dreams, and unique identities.”

Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt also showed her agreement: “I fully support all the brave women who stood up and left the sash ceremony to protest the unacceptable treatment at the Miss Universe 2025 competition in Thailand.”
Reigning Miss Universe Kjær Theilvig wrote on social media: “Standing up for yourself is not easy, but it is an important act to protect your values and demonstrate personal strength. When you are brave enough, your voice will be loud enough to be heard.”
Facing a wave of criticism, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil issued an apology, stating that the incident stemmed from a language barrier. “If anyone felt hurt or uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize. Everything might have been a misunderstanding,” he said.
