Family representatives stated they received information from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou about Liu’s health condition and the procedures for her repatriation.
Prior to this, Mr. Liu Xuong Meng (Song Nhan commune, Cam My district, Dong Nai province) reported to local authorities and the Police District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City about his daughter’s prolonged loss of contact.
According to the family, during the recent Tet holiday, Liu informed them she would stay in Ho Chi Minh City to work part-time and earn money for her upcoming semester tuition. However, subsequent attempts to reach her were unsuccessful. Initially, the family assumed she was busy with work and did not suspect anything.
However, after Tet, when the family visited Ho Chi Minh City to look for her, the dormitory management confirmed that Liu had left the dormitory on January 21 (22nd day of the lunar month) and had not returned since.
