However, yet again, the “little Pele” failed to meet expectations. He had little impact on Santos’ overall play and was substituted out in the second half (minute 67) after another lackluster showing.
Statistics reveal that Neymar lost possession 12 times, won only 50% of his duels (6 out of 12), and completed 85% of his passes. While these numbers are slightly better than his previous game against Novorizontino, they still highlight his struggles.
In this match, Santos suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of their fierce rivals, Corinthians. Memphis Depay overshadowed Neymar, providing an assist for one of Corinthians’ goals.
Thus, Santos has now gone winless in all three matches since Neymar’s return. They drew 1-1 against Botafogo, 0-0 against Novorizontino, and lost 1-2 to Corinthians.
Following the Novorizontino match, many Santos fans voiced their criticism, even suggesting Neymar should retire early. They believe he no longer possesses the stamina or sharpness needed to compete. A glaring example is Neymar’s frequent loss of possession during games.

Although Neymar displayed flashes of his technical brilliance against Corinthians, it wasn’t enough to salvage his declining career.
The loss to Corinthians pushed Santos down to third place in Group B of the Paulista Championship with just 9 points from 9 matches. To secure a spot in the next round, they must finish among the top two teams in their group.
