Phú Thọ province is embarking on a significant urban development program, aiming to establish eight new Class V cities by 2030. This initiative promises to reshape the province’s future and drive economic growth and improved living standards.

Project Goals and Scope

Decision No. 516/QĐ-UBND, approving Phú Thọ’s urban development program until 2030, outlines the formation of eight new Class V cities across the province. These cities include: Vạn Xuân (Tam Nông), Phú Lộc (Phù Ninh), Tây Cốc (Đoan Hùng), Hiền Lương (Hạ Hòa), Thu Cúc (Tân Sơn), Hương Cần (Thanh Sơn), Minh Tân (Cẩm Khê), and Hoàng Xá (Thanh Thủy). These new municipalities will each have a population of at least 4,000 people, with a density of 1,000 people per square kilometer in the urban areas, increasing to over 5,000 people per square kilometer within the built-up zones.

This ambitious program aims to create a modern and integrated urban network, aligning with Phú Thọ’s overall development plan for 2021-2030.

Projected Resources and Costs

The estimated cost for developing these eight new cities is 55.804 trillion VND. This includes an estimated 8.561 trillion VND in government funding, with the remaining amount sourced from other funding sources. These funds will support various activities including planning, adjusting general plans, establishing architectural management regulations, urban development programs, urban classification schemes, and the construction of technical and social infrastructure within these new cities and their surrounding areas.

Administrative Systems and Impacts

Phú Thọ currently comprises 13 districts (including Việt Trì City, Phú Thọ Town, etc.) and 207 administrative villages. The province is part of a national plan to reorganize administrative villages between 2023 and 2025, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing its administrative system and fostering integrated development.
