On the 5th of January (January 24), Tan Son Nhat Airport welcomed more than 152,000 passengers, setting a new daily record for passenger numbers. This figure represents a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2024, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following this trend, the 6th of January (January 25) also saw over 146,000 passengers.

In subsequent days, the number of passengers remained high, averaging over 140,000 per day. On the 7th of January (February 4), there were 145,000 passengers, on the 8th (February 5) there were 143,000, and on the 9th (February 6) it reached 139,000. Even on the 10th of January (February 7), the number of passengers remained high with over 116,200.

2. Comparison with Previous Years

According to representatives from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the travel demand after Tet this year remains high, even exceeding that of the same period last year. From January 24 to February 2, domestic airlines served over 1.67 million passengers, including 1.1 million domestic passengers, marking a 12.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This is a positive sign indicating the gradual recovery of the economy and people’s livelihoods following the pandemic.

3. National Airport Passenger Traffic Summary

The surge in passenger numbers is not limited to Tan Son Nhat Airport; other airports nationwide have also reported robust growth. In total, the country welcomed over 3.6 million passengers, representing a 16% increase from the same period last year. The top three airports by traffic include:

  • Tan Son Nhat Airport: 1.38 million passengers, up 7.6%
  • Noi Bai Airport: 900,000 passengers, up 12%
  • Da Nang Airport: 381,000 passengers, up 26%

These figures highlight the growing travel demand among Vietnamese people, particularly during major holidays like Tet.

While operations at Tan Son Nhat Airport and other airports are running smoothly, some challenges remain for management to address. For instance, check-in and security areas often become overcrowded during peak periods. To improve this situation, managers can implement measures such as:

  • Increasing staffing in check-in and security areas.
  • Introducing automated check-in systems and mobile applications to reduce waiting times.
  • Offering promotions or incentives to encourage passengers to choose less crowded departure times.
