At around 1 PM on February 4, residents of Đoài Lê Village, Quảng Yên Commune (Quảng Xương District, Thanh Hóa Province) were startled to witness the collapse of the riverbank at Nhà Lê River, triggering severe erosion. The incident caused panic among locals, who had to quickly evacuate to ensure their safety.
Causes and Event Details
According to Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Tư (Đoài Đông Village), he was working in his garden when he heard a sudden rush of water. Within moments, a large amount of soil was swept away, causing the riverbank to collapse and erode. “I immediately alerted neighbors to evacuate their homes for safety,” Mr. Tư shared.
Local Government Response
Shortly after the incident, representatives from the Quảng Xương Irrigation Branch and local authorities promptly arrived at the scene. Safety measures such as setting up barriers and warning signs were implemented to protect residents. Meanwhile, authorities began planning efforts to address the damage.
Mr. Nguyễn Việt Dũng, Deputy Director of the Quảng Xương Irrigation Branch, stated: “The collapsed section connects the Hoàng and Lý rivers, which play a role in regulating water flow to prevent drought and support agricultural irrigation. Currently, water from the Lý River is flowing back, causing erosion. We are draining water from the Lý River to reduce the flow into the Nhà Lê River.”
Remediation and Prevention Plans
To prevent further erosion, the Quảng Xương Irrigation Branch is actively implementing water drainage and stabilizing water flow. Additionally, local authorities are collaborating with relevant agencies to assess the damage and develop long-term solutions.
Conclusion
The riverbank collapse at Nhà Lê River in Thanh Hóa has caused severe erosion, impacting the lives and livelihoods of local residents. It is hoped that with the efforts of relevant authorities, the situation will soon be resolved, and effective preventive measures will be implemented to avoid future recurrences.
