Cristiano Ronaldo reacted with remarkable composure to Rasmus Hojlund’s “imitation” celebration during the UEFA Nations League quarter-final. Instead of anger, CR7 displayed humility, even calling it an “honor.”

In the match between Portugal and Denmark on March 21st, Hojlund, the Man Utd forward, came off the bench to score the only goal for Denmark in the 78th minute. Interestingly, he celebrated with the signature “Siiiu” move famously performed by Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s response was voiced in a pre-match statement for the return leg of the UEFA Nations League:

“I have no problem with his celebration. I know it’s not disrespectful. He’s not the only one celebrating the way I do around the world. I’m smart enough to understand that. To me, it’s an honor.”

Ronaldo also expressed his desire to celebrate in that style in front of Hojlund during the return match:

“I hope to be able to celebrate in that way in front of him tomorrow. I’m glad he appreciates my celebration style.”

On the other side of the pitch, Hojlund explained his celebratory gesture:

“I don’t want to overstate it, but Cristiano is everything to me. I love football because of Cristiano, I became a Man Utd fan because of Cristiano. I started training because of Cristiano, I started doing push-ups and sit-ups every day before bed, because of Cristiano, because I want to be like Cristiano.” (Statement to Danish news agency DR)

This incident highlights an interesting aspect of the styles and attitudes of two top global soccer stars. Ronaldo, with his vast experience, demonstrates calmness and respect for the younger player. Meanwhile, Hojlund expresses admiration and a desire to learn from his idol.

The UEFA Nations League quarter-final return leg between Portugal and Denmark will take place tomorrow morning (2:45 AM on March 24th) at Sporting Lisbon. Both players are sure to continue capturing the attention of fans.
