New regulations regarding speed and safe distances for motor vehicles and specialized motorcycles on roads have been issued by Circular 38/2024/TT-BGTVT. Adhering to these rules is crucial for road safety and preventing unfortunate incidents.

Safe Distance Regulations

Safe distance is the minimum space between vehicles to avoid collisions if the vehicle ahead suddenly brakes or stops. Circular 38/2024 details the following regulations:

  • General: Drivers of vehicles and motorcycles must maintain a safe distance from vehicles traveling in the same lane and direction. If a sign indicating “Minimum Distance Between Vehicles” is present, the distance must be no less than the value specified on the sign.
  • Distance Based on Speed: The required safe distance varies based on the vehicle’s speed:
    • Speeds below 60 km/h: The safe distance depends on traffic density and actual road conditions; safety must be prioritized.
    • Speed 60 km/h: Minimum safe distance 35 meters.
    • Speed 60-80 km/h: Minimum safe distance 55 meters.
    • Speed 80-100 km/h: Minimum safe distance 70 meters.
    • Speed 100-120 km/h: Minimum safe distance 100 meters.
  • Weather Conditions: In poor weather conditions like rain, fog, slippery roads, or steep mountain roads with limited visibility, drivers should increase the safe distance beyond the dry-weather requirements.
