On January 25, the Office of the People’s Committee (UBND) of Nghe An province issued information regarding a serious workplace accident at Song Lam 2 Cement Corporation. On the night of January 24, after receiving reports from Dan Tri online, Deputy Chairman Bui Dinh Long of the Nghe An provincial government issued urgent directives to relevant agencies.

Mr. Bui Dinh Long requested the Anh Son District People’s Committee to cooperate with functional units in carrying out rescue and relief operations, while promptly visiting and supporting the families of the victims.

Swift Response from Local Authorities

Leadership from Nghe An province assigned the Provincial Police to lead the investigation, collaborating with the Construction Department, Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, the Anh Son District People’s Committee, and other relevant parties. The agencies were tasked with investigating the cause of the incident, addressing construction accidents, and technical issues leading to unsafe working conditions in accordance with legal regulations.

Additionally, the provincial government required Song Lam 2 Cement Corporation to closely cooperate in rescue efforts and work with competent authorities to handle the case transparently and in compliance with regulations.

Detailed Information About the Accident

According to Dan Tri, around 3:15 PM on January 24, a serious workplace accident occurred at Song Lam 2 Cement Corporation in Hoai Son Commune, Anh Son District, resulting in the deaths of three workers. The victims were identified as Nguyen Huu Nga (born 1976), Tran Van Huyen (born 1970), and Thai Ba Minh (born 1971), all residents of Anh Son District.

Reports from the company indicate that Mr. Huyen and Mr. Nga were assigned to replace the air duct fabric. Meanwhile, Mr. Minh, who had finished his shift, agreed with the contractor to clean the cement silo. A silo is a storage container for bulk materials like cement, fly ash, and ground limestone, with capacities ranging from 60 to 500 tons.

During the cleaning process, materials unexpectedly collapsed, burying the three workers. Although the company immediately initiated rescue operations, it took 30 minutes to retrieve the first victim. By 6:10 PM on the same day, rescue operations were completed.

Support for Victims’ Families

In addition to directing the aftermath of the accident, the leadership of the Anh Son District People’s Committee personally visited, consoled, and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. The local government provided each family with VND 10 million from emergency funds to help them overcome immediate difficulties.
