In the afternoon of February 1st (the 4th day of Tet), traffic on National Highway 1A, specifically the section passing through Gianh Bridge in Ba Don Town (Quang Binh Province), faced severe congestion stretching for several kilometers. The primary cause was identified as the narrow structure of Gianh Bridge combined with a sudden surge in vehicle traffic moving north to south during the final days of the Tet holiday.

Efforts to Resolve the Congestion
To address this issue, the Traffic Police Department of Quang Binh Provincial Police mobilized a large number of officers to the scene to coordinate traffic, ensuring order and safety for vehicles passing through the area. However, traffic is expected to increase further on February 2nd (the 5th day of Tet), potentially prolonging the congestion.
Gianh Bridge – A Bottleneck on National Highway 1A
Gianh Bridge, one of the key bridges on National Highway 1A, has only two lanes and acts as a bottleneck, frequently causing traffic jams, especially during holidays and Tet. This not only inconveniences residents but also poses significant safety risks.
New Construction Project for Gianh Bridge
To resolve these issues, the Ministry of Transport has approved the construction of a new Gianh Bridge. The new bridge will be nearly 750 meters long with a road width of 12 meters, including two lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for non-motorized vehicles. Currently, the project is in the pile driving phase. After the Tet holiday, the project management team will maximize human resources and equipment to accelerate progress, aiming to complete the new Gianh Bridge as soon as possible, thereby reducing future congestion.
Conclusion
The severe traffic congestion at Gianh Bridge during the Tet holiday highlights the limitations of current infrastructure. The implementation of the new Gianh Bridge project is expected to provide a long-term solution, significantly improving traffic conditions on National Highway 1A, ensuring both safety and convenience for residents.
