The Vĩnh Phúc Provincial People’s Council has just announced a draft resolution outlining special policies to promote sports development from 2025 to 2030. This marks a significant step, opening new opportunities for local athletes and coaches.
Target Beneficiaries and Nutrition Support
The resolution targets various groups, including coaches, athletes from different levels of teams, educational institutions, and social organizations. A key highlight is the provision of specialized nutrition support for athletes during intensive training periods. Specifically:
- Coaches and provincial team athletes receive 175,000 VND/person/day.
- Young provincial athletes are supported with 150,000 VND/person/day.
Meal Allowance Support
The policy also clearly outlines meal allowances for participants in competitions:
- National-level competitions: 150,000–175,000 VND/person/day.
- Provincial-level competitions: 130,000–150,000 VND/person/day.
- District-level competitions: 100,000–130,000 VND/person/day.
Note that individuals already receiving benefits under Circular 86/2020 or Resolution 64/2012 will not be eligible for additional support.
Achievement-Based Rewards
Another critical aspect of the resolution is the reward system for athletes achieving high results in major competitions:
- National Sports Games:
- Gold medal: 20 million VND/athlete.
- Silver medal: 15 million VND.
- Bronze medal: 7 million VND.
- National Championships:
- Gold medal: 15 million VND.
- Silver medal: 10 million VND.
- Bronze medal: 7 million VND.
- National Youth Championships: Rewards are 50% of those for the National Championships.
- School-based fitness events (e.g., Hội khỏe Phù Đổng): Rewards do not exceed 30% of provincial-level competition prizes.
Support for Community Sports Events
To encourage grassroots sports activities, Vĩnh Phúc proposes financial support for organizing sports events:
- Commune-level People’s Committees: 40 million VND/year.
- Village and neighborhood units: 24 million VND/year.
- Schools and continuing education centers: 10 million VND/year.
Context and Significance
At the end of 2024, the story of athlete Nguyễn Thị Hương requesting leave due to unpaid rewards and nutrition support drew public attention. The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism acknowledged that policy changes caused Vĩnh Phúc’s sports ranking to drop from 17th place (in 2018) to 27th (in 2022).
Nguyễn Thị Hương, Vietnam’s first canoeing athlete to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, exemplifies Vĩnh Phúc’s sports potential. She has won numerous medals in Asian and Southeast Asian competitions and was honored at the 2024 VTV Awards.
Conclusion
The draft resolution by the Vĩnh Phúc Provincial People’s Council brings renewed hope for sustainable local sports development. To achieve maximum effectiveness, close collaboration between authorities and the community is essential. Let’s follow and support efforts to elevate Vĩnh Phúc sports in the future!
