The Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long has mandated accelerating the construction of the new facilities for Bach Mai and Việt Đức Hospitals, aiming to swiftly address the increasing need for medical care among residents. Both projects, initiated in 2014, have faced numerous hurdles during their construction.

Addressing Delays and Accelerating Progress

On February 19, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long personally met with relevant parties to identify and resolve obstacles in completing the new hospital facilities. Previously, the government had issued Resolution 34 to create mechanisms and solutions for overcoming these challenges. The Ministry of Health swiftly implemented a plan, assigning tasks to related entities to maintain the schedule.

The Ministry of Health established a task force to monitor and direct the implementation. All involved parties, including the investor, contractors, hospitals, and related agencies, were urged to accelerate the project’s completion by 2025.

Requiring a 1-Month Time Reduction

According to reports from contractors and project management teams, the priority now is to expedite contract adjustments, complete construction phases, procure, and install equipment. Specifically, the Bach Mai Hospital contractor committed to completing and installing equipment by August 15, 2025, while the Việt Đức Hospital contractor aimed to finish the construction by October 15, 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long demanded a minimum 1-month acceleration of the schedule to meet the urgent needs of the public. He emphasized the necessity of resolving difficulties related to contract adjustments, Ministry of Construction approvals, and securing financial resources.

Specific Tasks for Each Party

The Deputy Prime Minister required:

  • Investors and Project Management: Quickly complete contract amendment documents for Ministry of Construction review.
  • Contractors: Increase productivity and prioritize project completion.
  • Ministry of Construction: Expedite review processes for contractor proposals.
  • Ministry of Finance: Ensure sufficient funding for the project.
  • Hospitals: Prepare human resources and operational plans for the new facilities.
  • Ministry of Health: Closely monitor progress and report the project’s implementation schedule to the Prime Minister monthly.

Consequences of Delays

Bach Mai Hospital is currently facing an overwhelming workload, with 8,000 outpatients and 4,300 inpatients, leading to patient overcrowding. Early operation of the new facility will significantly alleviate the burden on the hospital, ensuring quality service and improving medical care for residents.

Conclusion

Accelerating the construction of the new facilities for Bach Mai and Việt Đức Hospitals is crucial to meeting the growing medical needs of Hanoi residents and addressing the existing capacity issues at current facilities. Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long has issued specific demands to all involved parties to guarantee both timeliness and project quality. It is hoped that all parties’ efforts will result in the new facilities opening soon, thereby benefiting the local community.
