Imagination Is Key

When it comes to Director Xuân Trường, many people are impressed by his nickname, “the light wizard.” He shares that lighting design is not just about technique but also heavily relies on the imagination of the designer.

“Don’t ever lack imagination; otherwise, you won’t have the power to break through someone else’s perspective. That’s the crucial element in lighting design,” he asserts.

According to Director Xuân Trường, imagination is key in lighting design.

Light can convey various emotional tones: love, hatred, warmth, intensity, loneliness… Therefore, beautiful light doesn’t come from expensive fixtures but from the vision and sensitivity of the person creating it. Instead of worrying about technical aspects, focus on the soul’s vibrations and rich imagination.

Lighting Across Different Fields

In each field, lighting needs to be designed differently:

  • Music concerts: Understand the music composition and blend it with visual art to balance between light and shadow. The performer is always the focal point.
  • Dance: Understand what the choreographer wants to convey, their movements, and the stage atmosphere.
  • Theater and cinema: Master character psychology to illuminate the right scenes and emotions.
  • Fine arts: Consider the angle, distance, and brightness to highlight the beauty of the artwork.

Director Xuân Trường is meticulous and attentive, creating unique touches in every program.

Perfection Is Not the Ultimate Goal

Director Xuân Trường highly values perfection but acknowledges that nothing is absolutely perfect. “Art must be missing something to be interesting,” he says.

He believes that perfection is just a standard, but the true goal is to touch the audience’s emotions. Each program or performance is a new challenge and opportunity for him to showcase his creativity and passion.

Challenges with the Live Concert “Dream Sol”

Director Xuân Trường took on the role of stage director for the live concert “Dream Sol” by Giáng Son, scheduled to take place on February 15 at Park City Hanoi.

Leveraging Outdoor Space

The “Dream Sol” concert presents a unique challenge of balancing visual language and color to honor Giáng Son’s musical value. Using natural elements and super-luminescent projectors instead of LED screens makes the stage soft and harmonious with nature.

According to Director Xuân Trường, Giáng Son’s music has a touch of loneliness, darkness, yet also romance…

Stage Layout

With an audience capacity of 2,200, the stage layout ensures that music remains the central element. The combination of sound and visual effects creates a genuine and immersive experience for the audience.

“I never feel fully satisfied with myself,” he says.

Conceptualizing the Stage Setup

Each song by Giáng Son carries its own unique hue. Director Xuân Trường shared that the stage doesn’t need to be overly complex but should honor the spirit of Giáng Son’s music. Some songs will use only the colors of the stage combined with smoke and light to let the music speak.
