On January 26th, at the National Funeral Home (No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi), a solemn state funeral was held for former Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu. This event not only honors a remarkable leader but also serves as a tribute to his significant contributions to Vietnam’s healthcare sector.


The state funeral for former Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu was conducted with high-level protocols, attracting many party and state leaders.

Final Send-off

General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with numerous other leading figures from the Party and State, sent wreaths to pay their respects to former Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu. The delegation led by Mr. Le Minh Hung from the Central Committee of the Communist Party also attended to offer condolences to the family.

Life and Career

Former Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu was born on June 22, 1951, in Phu Hoa Village, Lang Tai District, Bac Ninh Province. Despite growing up in difficult wartime conditions, he excelled and was admitted to Hanoi Medical University in 1968, becoming the Deputy Secretary of the university’s branch union. In 1971, he temporarily suspended his studies to join the military, fighting in the fierce Quang Tri battlefield, and joined the Communist Party on August 25, 1972.


Dr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu believed that a doctor must continually strive to provide the best care for patients.

After leaving the military, he completed his medical degree and dedicated his life to healthcare. From being a doctor and lecturer to a senior manager, he demonstrated creativity and a high sense of responsibility. Notably, he initiated Project 1816, which involved rotating specialized staff from higher-tier hospitals to support lower-tier facilities, thereby improving healthcare quality in various regions.

Legacy

Throughout his career, former Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu held several important positions, including Director of the Central Health Protection Board, Minister of Health, Deputy Secretary of Hanoi City Party Committee, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, and Director of Hanoi Department of Health. With 50 years in the Party, he was awarded the First-Class Independence Medal, First-Class Labor Medal, Second-Class Labor Medal, Third-Class Labor Medal, and many other prestigious honors.


A delegation from Dan Tri News Agency, led by Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh, attended the ceremony to pay respects and offer condolences to the family.

Due to advanced age and illness, he passed away on January 24, 2025, in Hanoi, at the age of 74. His burial took place at 3:00 PM the same day at his hometown cemetery in My Thuan Village, My Loc Town, Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh Province.
