Against this backdrop, five outstanding players have been shortlisted for the Vietnam Golden Ball (QBV) 2024 award: Nguyễn Thành Chung, Nguyễn Hoàng Đức, Nguyễn Quang Hải, Phạm Tuấn Hải, and Nguyễn Tiến Linh.
These players played crucial roles in helping the national team secure the AFF Cup 2024 championship under Coach Kim Sang Sik. Their performances not only shone at the national level but also in domestic leagues, solidifying their status as top talents in Vietnamese football.
Nguyễn Xuân Son: Leading Candidate for Best Foreign Player
Another standout name in 2024 is Nguyễn Xuân Son. He has been shortlisted for the Best Foreign Player of the Year award. For most of the year, Xuan Son played in the V-League as a foreign player under the name Rafaelson.
However, Xuan Son only joined the national team from December 21, 2024, for the match against Myanmar in the AFF Cup group stage. His inclusion in the foreign player category rather than the domestic player category for the QBV nomination sparked debates. Nevertheless, his significant contributions throughout the year cannot be ignored.
Golden Ball: Recognition of Consistent Efforts Throughout the Year
The Golden Ball award honors the consistent efforts and excellence of players over the entire year, not just based on a few matches or tournaments. This requires sustained stability and outstanding performance from the nominees.

Besides the men’s awards, the organizers will also present the Golden Ball for women. Notable female nominees include Nguyễn Thị Trúc Hương, Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Ngân, Huỳnh Như, Trần Thị Thùy Trang, and Dương Thị Vân.
Additionally, other awards such as the Golden Ball for Futsal, Best Young Male Player, and Best Young Female Player will be given out. Football experts and journalists specializing in Vietnamese football will cast their votes for these honors.
The awards ceremony is expected to take place at the end of February 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, promising surprises and joy for Vietnamese football fans.
