At around 1 AM on the same day, a multi-vehicle collision involving 5 cars occurred on the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet expressway in Ham Thuong Bac district, Binh Thuan province. Immediately upon receiving the report, the Highway Traffic Control and Inspection Team No. 6 quickly deployed traffic management and regulation at the scene. Affected vehicles were directed off the expressway to use National Route 1A to avoid prolonged congestion.

Due to concerns about congestion at the An Phu interchange to the foot of Long Thanh Bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway, many drivers chose to start their journeys early to return home for Tet. However, the accident on the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet expressway led to extended traffic jams for several kilometers. By morning on 24/1, the volume of vehicles entering the expressway towards Central Vietnam at the An Phu interchange continued to increase.
Driver Mai Van Que, with years of long-distance driving experience, shared: “During the pre-Tet period, there is a high volume of traffic, especially on expressways. Drivers unfamiliar with long-distance driving should pay attention to maintaining safe distances to prevent accidents.”

The Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet expressway spans approximately 100.8 km, passing through Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuong Bac, and Ham Thuong Nam districts of Binh Thuan province. The route is designed for maximum speeds of 100-120 km/h, meeting the travel needs of residents and promoting regional economic development.
This project has a total investment of 10.85 trillion VND, commenced in September 2020, and was officially put into operation on May 19, 2023. It is one of the key expressways, helping to reduce traffic load on National Route 1A and shorten travel time between Central Vietnam and Southern regions.
