Patrol Results and Violation Handling

Traffic police forces across the country deployed over 25,500 taskforces, involving more than 137,500 officers and soldiers to patrol and control traffic. As a result, they handled over 55,800 violations, revoked driving licenses or professional certificates for nearly 3,000 cases, and impounded over 420 cars and more than 20,700 motorcycles.

Additionally, authorities identified and addressed more than 17,100 cases of drunk driving, nearly 13,300 speeding violations, and 88 drug-related offenses. On waterways, police handled 46 violations, imposing fines totaling 123 million Vietnamese dong and revoking one license. Railways also reported 10 violations, with fines totaling 7 million Vietnamese dong.

Traffic Congestion Situation

Overall, traffic order and safety across the country were generally maintained. However, the high volume of vehicles, especially before and after the Tet holiday, led to congestion on several major routes into Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as highways and the Rach My bridge connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.

To address this issue, traffic police proactively coordinated remote traffic management and adjusted traffic flow according to plans, thereby quickly resolving congestion on key roads.

Traffic Management in Hanoi

On the evening of February 2, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department announced the mobilization of all available resources to assist residents returning to the capital after the Tet holiday. Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia, Head of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, stated that units had been stationed at major routes such as Phap Van – Cau Giep, National Route 1A, Thanh Tri Bridge, Ring Road 3, and bus and train stations.

Teams of Road Traffic Police No. 5, 6, 7, and 14 focused on controlling traffic flows in the eastern and southern areas, while Teams of Road Traffic Police No. 11 and 12 coordinated with district and city police to ensure traffic in the western region. Traffic control personnel maintained maximum presence to prevent prolonged congestion or serious accidents.

The Hanoi Traffic Police Department advised residents returning to the city to follow traffic regulations, choose appropriate routes, avoid drinking and driving, and thoroughly inspect their vehicles before departure to ensure safety.

Conclusion

While the number of traffic accidents during the 2025 Tet holiday has significantly decreased compared to the previous year, the tragic loss of 209 lives serves as a strong reminder of the importance of improving traffic law compliance. Citizens must always prioritize safety when traveling to protect themselves and their communities.
