Accident Sequence

At around 6:30 AM on January 31, a white 7-seater car was traveling on DT746 towards DT747 from DT747B. When it reached the intersection with DT747, it suddenly collided with a red car bearing license plate 61K-178.xx, which was crossing the intersection from the direction of DT747.

The powerful impact caused the red car to flip over, landing upside down, while the front of the white car was completely smashed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. However, the scene became chaotic as both vehicles blocked the intersection, disrupting traffic.

Initial Causes

According to footage from the dashboard camera, the traffic lights for the direction of the white car were not functioning at the time of the accident. Local residents reported that the area experienced a power outage, which took about 30 minutes to restore.

The malfunctioning traffic lights created confusion at the intersection, leading to uncertainty about right-of-way among vehicles. This is considered the primary cause of the severe accident.

Response from Authorities

Upon receiving the report, the Tan Uyen City Police promptly arrived at the scene to investigate and examine the incident. The involved vehicles were also removed to prevent prolonged traffic congestion.

Authorities emphasized that this serves as an important lesson regarding the significance of maintaining stable traffic signal systems, especially during peak holiday periods when traffic density increases.

Proposed Solutions

To prevent similar accidents, traffic experts recommend:

  • Regular maintenance of traffic signals: Regular inspections and maintenance should be conducted to ensure the system operates smoothly, even under harsh weather conditions or power outages.
  • Installation of backup power sources: Equipping major intersections with generators or backup batteries will help maintain traffic light operations during power failures.
  • Enhanced patrols and enforcement: Law enforcement agencies should increase supervision and strictly enforce traffic laws, particularly in complex intersections.

Conclusion

The accident at the DT746 – DT747 intersection is a wake-up call highlighting the importance of ensuring traffic safety in densely populated areas. Although there were no casualties, the incident exposed lingering issues within the traffic infrastructure. It is hoped that authorities will soon implement effective solutions to prevent future accidents.
