On the afternoon of February 16, Hanoi’s Traffic Police Department reported that after 1.5 months of Decree 168/2024 being in effect (from January 1 to February 15), traffic police across the city handled over 24,000 violations (a decrease of more than 42.9% compared to the previous period); authorities also temporarily seized over 7,400 vehicles, suspended more than 1,000 driver’s licenses, and deducted points from over 2,700 licenses.

According to authorities, during the 1.5 months of implementing Decree 168/2024, traffic police across the city handled 5,800 cases of alcohol violations; over 1,700 speeding violations; 838 overloaded vehicle cases; 665 red-light violations; and over 7,400 cases of not wearing helmets.
Field observations indicate that on many roads and intersections in Hanoi, violations like running red lights, lane encroachment, and illegal parking have significantly decreased.
To maintain improved traffic safety and order, moving forward, Hanoi’s Traffic Police Department will enhance patrols and focus on addressing six groups of violations that are key causes of accidents.
