Con đường sự nghiệp của tân Phó Thủ tướng Mai Văn Chính

From pioneering surgical techniques to groundbreaking neonatal care, Từ Dũ Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) celebrates 50 years of exceptional contributions to Vietnamese healthcare. This milestone marks a significant chapter, reflecting on achievements and charting a course for future success.

Fifty Years of Medical Excellence

Dr. Trần Ngọc Hải, Director of Từ Dũ Hospital, highlighted the hospital’s remarkable achievements, bringing hope to countless Vietnamese families. From the 1988 separation of Vietnamese-German conjoined twins to the implementation of minimally invasive surgery, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and successful fetal cardiac interventions, Từ Dũ Hospital has consistently maintained its leading position in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

These advancements not only showcase the hospital’s remarkable growth but also solidify Vietnam’s pioneering role in international medical practices. Beyond direct patient care, Từ Dũ Hospital fosters community health initiatives, exemplified by programs such as Hòa Bình Village, the “Village Midwife” training program, the South Vietnam’s first mother’s milk bank, and the “skin-to-skin” contact program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notable Achievements and Commitment to Quality

Over the past 50 years, Từ Dũ Hospital has received numerous accolades, including twice being recognized as a Hero of Labour, along with various Labour and Independence Medals. Importantly, the hospital maintains a commitment to patient safety, evidenced by its consistently low maternal mortality rate. The rate has decreased significantly from 97 per 100,000 births in 2000 to 2.9 per 100,000 in 2024, far lower than the South Asian and global average.

Từ Dũ Hospital is committed to further enhancing patient care, addressing the growing healthcare needs of the Vietnamese population. The hospital aspires to become a leading international-level specialized obstetrics and gynecology center, deserving of its “Hero Hospital” designation.

Heartwarming Stories of Fetal Cardiac Interventions

The “50 Years, Từ Dũ Hospital Ascends” event wasn’t just about celebrating achievements but also recognizing the emotional connections formed. Five families whose children underwent successful fetal cardiac interventions shared their heartfelt gratitude to the hospital’s medical team. Ms. Nguyễn Phùng Phương Anh, whose experience was a testament to the dedicated care, described the challenges of pregnancy and the joy of a safe delivery.

Her story, and those of other families, epitomizes the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of Từ Dũ Hospital’s medical staff.

Future Focus: Saving Premature Infants

The hospital’s recent construction of a state-of-the-art European-standard neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a testament to Từ Dũ Hospital’s commitment to improving the care for premature infants. Equipped with advanced techniques like nitric oxide (NO) ventilation, targeted temperature management, and surfactant administration, the unit significantly increases the survival rate for babies born before 28 weeks. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Từ Anh, Head of the Neonatal Department, discussed the significance of this upgrade.

Professor Tăng Chí Thượng, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, praised the close collaboration between hospitals in providing maternal and child health care in the city. He expressed confidence that Từ Dũ Hospital will continue to invest in its advancement, striving for Level 4 – the highest international standard for neonatal care. Từ Dũ Hospital stands as a beacon of excellence in Vietnamese healthcare.
