The Vietnam U20 Women’s team is in Group A along with hosts Thailand, China, and Bangladesh. According to experts, the China U20 Women’s team is highly rated in Group A.
In the qualifiers, this team won all three matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding none. Meanwhile, the Vietnam U20 Women’s team and Thailand U20 Women’s team are familiar opponents, often clashing in youth tournaments in Southeast Asia.
Most recently, the Vietnam U19 Women’s team and Thailand U19 Women’s team met in the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women’s Championship, held in June 2025 at Thong Nhat Stadium. On that occasion, Thailand U19 Women’s team secured a 3-1 victory over Vietnam U19 Women’s team.
Commenting on the draw results, head coach of the Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team, Okiyama Masahiko, stated: “The draw results and the order of matches have been determined. First, to prepare for the opening match against China, I want to thoroughly analyze our opponent. The second match will be against hosts Thailand. I want to turn the disappointing defeat in the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Championship final against Thailand into motivation to help the whole team prepare well and win.”
“In the third match against Bangladesh, the entire team is determined to secure all three points to reach the quarterfinals and pursue subsequent goals. We will prepare very carefully together to earn the opportunity to participate in the World Cup for the first time.”
According to the regulations, teams will play in a round-robin format, with points awarded. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will qualify for the quarterfinals. The four best teams in the tournament will earn tickets to the World Cup.
The U20 Women’s Asian Championship will take place in Thailand from April 1 to April 18, 2026.
