On the morning of February 14, Mr. Đỗ Thanh Sơn, Chairman of the Giao An Commune People’s Committee in Lang Chánh District, Thanh Hóa Province, stated that local authorities are urgently coordinating with functional forces to address an environmental pollution issue caused by a pig farm owned by Mrs. Lê Thị Chính, located in Viên Village.
According to Mr. Sơn, Mrs. Chính previously leased over 1 hectare of forestry land from the Lang Chánh Forestry Company to raise chickens and ducks on a household farming basis.

However, recently, Mrs. Chính expanded her livestock operation by building additional pens to house hundreds of pigs. During operations, the pig farm caused significant environmental pollution, sparking outrage among local residents.
Notably, despite housing hundreds of pigs, Mrs. Chính’s farm lacks a wastewater treatment system, discharging waste directly onto the farm premises.
Since the Lunar New Year 2025, residents have noticed increasingly foul odors emanating from Mrs. Chính’s pig farm, prompting complaints to local authorities.

The Chairman of Giao An Commune also noted that on February 12, the commune People’s Committee established an inspection team.
During the inspection, authorities discovered over 200 fattening pigs, 300 chickens, and 1,000 egg-laying ducks at the farm. Mrs. Chính could not provide any documentation related to permits for livestock farming or environmental protection.

Following the inspection, the team issued a report, ordering the suspension of farming activities. The case has been reported to higher authorities for further action as per regulations.
“For now, we have reported the matter to the Lang Chánh District People’s Committee for joint handling. However, before any penalty decision is made, we will require Mrs. Chính to relocate all pigs from the farm to ensure environmental sanitation and prevent adverse effects on nearby residents,” Mr. Sơn stated.
