On April 28th, during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, President Luong Cuong expressed confidence that this visit would mark a new phase of development in bilateral relations.
Recognizing substantial potential for economic cooperation, the President proposed deepening economic, trade, and investment ties, boosting scientific and technological collaboration, and implementing specific projects in emerging sectors such as digital transformation, green transition, high-quality human resource development, semiconductors, and AI.
Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru affirmed the Japanese government’s commitment to supporting Vietnamese citizens residing, studying, and working in Japan. He also expressed a desire to further promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Discussing global and regional issues, both sides agreed to enhance coordination, share stances, and cooperate and support each other on shared regional and international matters, and within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN, Mekong, contributing to a more equitable and just international system based on international law and the UN Charter.
President Luong Cuong thanked Japan for supporting ASEAN’s stance on resolving disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means based on international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
On the same day, National Assembly Chairwoman Tran Thanh Man also met with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru. Both leaders agreed to strengthen political trust, promote exchanges and delegations between the two parties and national assemblies.
Ms. Man noted that the Prime Minister’s visit to Vietnam opened up new opportunities for cooperation across all sectors, particularly in economics, trade, scientific and technological cooperation, digital transformation, and the development of high-quality human resources.
The Chairwoman proposed increased cultural and tourism exchanges, and closer cooperation between local governments, continuing the focus on organizing the Mekong Cultural and Tourism Day in Can Tho City, thereby deepening the friendship between the Vietnamese and Japanese people.
Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru also hoped that the two national assemblies would increase exchanges and share experiences in organizing national elections.
He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s development through enhanced high-tech industry cooperation, high-quality human resource training, and semiconductor development.
Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru stated Japan will continue to support Vietnam in infrastructure development, disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, green and digital transformations, leveraging Japan’s strengths. He also expressed the desire for stronger cooperation in agriculture, including supporting Vietnam’s development of high-tech and digital agriculture.
