At the invitation of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and his wife, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife visited Vietnam officially, attending the P4G Summit from April 14-17.
The national anthems of both countries played, and the two prime ministers, along with their delegations, conducted the flag-raising ceremony.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali’s official visit to Vietnam marks a significant milestone, showcasing the deep-rooted friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two nations, which has been nurtured over nearly half a century. It also represents the strategic vision and mutual desire to strengthen bilateral ties during this new phase of development.
At the Government headquarters, the two leaders toured an exhibition showcasing the history of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Ethiopia has averaged around USD 10-15 million annually in the last three years. In 2024, the figure reached USD 13.1 million, with Vietnamese exports totaling USD 7.11 million and imports amounting to USD 6.06 million.
Vietnam primarily exports machinery, spare parts, textiles, and chemicals, while importing raw materials for textiles, leather, footwear, and coffee from Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has emerged as a shining economic prospect in Africa, boasting the fastest growth rate on the continent, averaging 9% between 2011 and 2019, and over 6% from 2020 to 2024. Economic growth in 2024 reached 8.2% and is projected to hit 8.4% in 2025.
As of October 2024, Ethiopia has one investment project in Vietnam, with a total investment capital of USD 10,000. MK Group, a Vietnamese company, has a joint venture project in Ethiopia for the production of smart cards.
