Tet Nguyen Dan is not only a time for family reunions but also an occasion to preserve the cultural heritage of the nation. In the lively atmosphere of preparing for the New Year, artist Trà My organized a unique rice cake wrapping contest, attracting the participation of many famous colleagues.
The Exciting Atmosphere at the Rice Cake Wrapping Contest
According to artist Trà My, despite the busy schedules that artists usually have during Tet, she still decided to invite everyone to her home to wrap traditional Tet rice cakes together. To ensure the event ran smoothly, the artist prepared all the necessary ingredients like Dong leaves, strings, glutinous rice, beans, and meat several days in advance.
When invited, most artists gladly agreed. Some even postponed their plans to return home to attend this meaningful event. At the event, People’s Artist Lan Huong enthusiastically guided Artist Vo Hoai Nam and Trà My on how to hand-wrap the rice cakes without using molds.

Although some of the rice cakes weren’t perfectly shaped, everyone felt happy to experience this deeply traditional activity. This was also an opportunity for the artists to bond with each other more during Tet.
Memorable Moments by the Hearth
The contest didn’t just stop at wrapping rice cakes; it became a full-fledged festival when everyone gathered around the hearth to wait for the cakes to cook. While waiting, the artists organized fun games like singing contests and humorous storytelling, creating a lively and laughter-filled atmosphere.
Artist Nguyet Hang and her husband Anh Tuan also participated in the event. Besides being an artist, Anh Tuan is well-known for his cooking skills. He and artist Vinh Xuong currently run a noodle shop in Ô Chợ Dừa, Hanoi.

Notably, Trà My’s mother, who is over 90 years old, actively participated in the preparation and boiling of the rice cakes. The image of the elderly lady diligently helping her grandchildren added to the event’s emotional significance.
The Thrilling Rice Cake Wrapping Competition
During the contest, teams tried to complete the task of wrapping the most beautiful and numerous rice cakes within the specified time. Artists like Đam Hằng and Ngô Lệ Quyên were enthusiastic about every step, from preparing the ingredients to finishing the final products.
The suspenseful moment when the organizers announced the results.
After completing the contest, the artists managed to wrap approximately 50 rice cakes. These cakes not only carried the taste of Tet but also embodied the camaraderie among colleagues.
