Ngày 27/1/2018, đội tuyển U23 Việt Nam đã tạo nên lịch sử khi lần đầu tiên lọt vào trận chung kết giải U23 châu Á, đối đầu với đội tuyển U23 Uzbekistan. Trận đấu được tổ chức tại thành phố Thường Châu, tỉnh Giang Tô, Trung Quốc, trong điều kiện thời tiết khắc nghiệt với tuyết rơi dày đặc.
