On the night of January 22, Vietnam Television (VTV) officially announced the restoration of signal for its television channels on multiple pay-TV platforms. This news brought joy to many viewers who enjoy VTV programs, especially the familiar channels VTV2 and VTV3.

Successful Negotiations: A Significant Step Forward

According to VTV’s announcement, the signal restoration was carried out following successful negotiations with pay-TV service providers. Although a final agreement has not been reached, VTV decided to temporarily resume broadcasting to ensure viewer benefits while continuing discussions toward a sustainable solution.

VTV emphasized that content licensing negotiations are essential to balance the value of television products, investment costs, and the interests of both viewers and businesses. “The journey towards aligning content licensing fees with their true value is an inevitable trend, contributing to enhancing program quality for the public,” a VTV representative shared.

Detailed Schedule for Signal Restoration

Specifically, from 7:30 PM on January 22, channels VTV2 and VTV3 were restored on TV360 and MyTV platforms. For FPT Play, the signal restoration is scheduled for January 23.

Prior to this, since January 16, some VTV channels had been discontinued on platforms like FPT Play, TV360, and MyTV due to ongoing negotiations. This disruption caused significant inconvenience for viewers, particularly those who frequently followed educational, entertainment, and news programs on VTV2 and VTV3.

The VTV Package: A Key Factor in Attracting Viewers

The VTV package, which includes channels from VTV1 to VTV9 and VTV Can Tho, plays a crucial role in attracting subscribers and generating substantial revenue for telecommunications companies. This is why all parties involved have been actively seeking a common ground to maintain these channels on pay-TV platforms.

Ongoing Negotiation Efforts

Since November 2024, VTV has proactively worked with pay-TV service providers to establish a new collaboration model. Some units quickly reached agreements and were not affected by the recent channel disruptions. However, for the remaining parties with unresolved differences, VTV stated that there is no legal basis to continue providing the full channel package without mutual agreement.

On January 20, under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Information and Communications’ leadership, a negotiation meeting took place. Although no final resolution was reached, the temporary restoration of signals is a notable progress.

Conclusion: Toward a Sustainable Solution

The return of VTV2 and VTV3 to streaming platforms marks a significant effort in protecting viewer rights. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of harmonizing interests among stakeholders in the television industry.

Viewers can continue to enjoy their favorite programs on VTV channels while awaiting formal agreements. Stay updated with reliable sources for the latest developments in the television sector.
