The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that cold air has affected some areas in the western part of Northern Vietnam and the northern central region.

By late afternoon and night, the cold air will continue to influence other areas in the western part of Northern Vietnam and the northern central region.

According to forecasts, the northeastern region will experience cold weather in the coming days, with mountainous areas potentially seeing severe cold. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell in the northeastern region are expected to range from 14-17°C, with some mountainous areas dropping below 13°C.

In Hanoi, light rain and cold weather started this morning; the lowest temperatures in the capital during this cold spell are expected to be around 15-17°C. Since this morning, Hanoi residents have clearly felt the humid conditions.

Meteorological experts predict that in the coming days, humidity levels in Hanoi and many parts of Northern Vietnam will exceed 85%, accompanied by drizzle and fog, causing dampness in homes, buildings, and essential items.

The humid weather will only end when a strong cold air mass arrives.

According to forecasts, Northern Vietnam will be affected by two cold air masses in the next week. The first, occurring around February 18-19, will be weak, while the second, expected around February 21-22, will be stronger and could reduce humidity.

Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hưởng, Head of the Weather Forecast Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting), stated that the humid season typically occurs from late February through April.

Periods of high humidity usually last 3-5 days, though some may extend up to a week. This phenomenon only ends or changes when the northeast monsoon arrives.

“The humid weather phenomenon is common in Northern Vietnam, especially in Hanoi, from late February to April each year. During this period, humidity levels exceed 85%, accompanied by drizzle and fog, leading to dampness in homes, buildings, and essential items,” Mr. Hưởng noted.
