Just days before the Lunar New Year, an emotional and meaningful story unfolded at Lê Văn Thịnh Hospital (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City). Mrs. K.N., 74, was rushed to the emergency room with severe chest pain, diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction accompanied by cardiogenic shock – a life-threatening complication with an over 80% mortality rate.
A Life-and-Death Battle Against Acute Myocardial Infarction
According to Dr. Lê Hồng Tuấn, Head of the Cardiology and Geriatrics Department, Mrs. K.N. was in critical condition requiring immediate intervention to save her life. “Cardiogenic shock is a severe complication of myocardial infarction, necessitating multidisciplinary collaboration to stabilize hemodynamics and improve heart function,” he explained.
The medical team immediately performed coronary stenting to restore blood flow to the heart – the first and most crucial step in addressing the root cause of the condition. Following this, intensive care therapies including mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), vasopressor medications, and inotropic support were implemented simultaneously.
Four Tense but Hopeful Days
During the first four days in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Mrs. K.N. faced life-and-death moments. On the first day, her hemodynamic status gradually stabilized, and her consciousness improved thanks to continuous renal replacement therapy. By the second and third days, she continued receiving respiratory support via mechanical ventilation, combined with pulmonary rehabilitation exercises.
On the fourth day, after a comprehensive evaluation, the doctors decided to remove the endotracheal tube. At this point, Mrs. K.N. could breathe independently, was fully conscious, and maintained stable heart rate and blood pressure. Pulmonary rehabilitation exercises continued to help her regain strength.
Joy After Cheating Death
Thanks to the close collaboration among healthcare professionals, Mrs. K.N. overcame the critical phase and was transitioned to internal medicine treatment. Currently, she is more stable and preparing to return to normal life after a major health crisis.
Mrs. K.N.’s family, despite having to borrow money from various sources to cover medical expenses, couldn’t hide their joy at seeing their mother escape death’s grasp. For them, this was not only a medical miracle but also proof of love and hope.
Conclusion: A Special Lunar New Year Gift
Mrs. K.N.’s story is not only a testament to human resilience in the face of adversity but also highlights the vital role of healthcare in saving lives. This Lunar New Year, her family will celebrate a special spring – a spring of rebirth and renewed hope for the future.
It is hoped that this story will inspire many, reminding us to cherish our health and always believe in life’s miracles.
