January 20 marked the last day of free rides for Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien), attracting a large number of people to experience this modern transportation system. Beyond being a convenient mode of transport, the metro line has become an ideal check-in spot for young Saigon locals.

According to on-site observations, despite it being a weekday, the stations of Metro Line 1 saw a steady influx of passengers from early morning until late afternoon.

Metro Line 1 officially began operations on December 22, 2024, and was free to use for 30 days. This period provided residents with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with this modern public transport system.

Phan Thi Khanh Hung (23 years old, living in Bien Hoa City) shared her experience: “The train runs very smoothly, with spacious and airy compartments. It took me less than 20 minutes to travel from Suoi Tien Bus Station to Ben Thanh, which was incredibly convenient.”

Additionally, the elevated metro line offers passengers stunning views of the city’s iconic landmarks from a unique perspective.

Cultural Highlights Ahead of Tet

With just a few days left before Tet, many young people have chosen metro stations as their photo spots. Hong Van (in red) shared: “We chose the metro station to take our Tet photos this year; it’s one of the special landmarks of the city where we live and study.”

The atrium area of the underground Ben Thanh Station (District 1) has become a favorite check-in spot, particularly for those wearing traditional ao dai dresses.

Important Information About Ticket Prices Starting January 21

Starting tomorrow (January 21), Metro Line 1 will begin charging fares as follows:

  • Cash single journey ticket: 7,000 – 20,000 VND
  • Non-cash single journey ticket: 6,000 – 19,000 VND
  • Daily pass: 40,000 VND
  • 3-day pass: 90,000 VND
  • Monthly pass (general): 300,000 VND
  • Monthly pass (students): 150,000 VND

Metro Line 1 is 19.7 km long, connecting District 1 with areas like Binh Thanh and Thu Duc City. Its operating hours are from 5 AM to 10 PM daily, with trains running every 8-12 minutes.
