During spermatogenesis, the optimal temperature of the testicles is 2 – 4 degrees Celsius lower than body temperature˳

How does temperature affect testicles?

According to Dr˳ Nguyen Duy Khanh – Center for Andrology, Viet Duc Hospital, studies have concluded that human sperm damaged by heat stress will lose viability, motility and density˳ ˳

Khanh said the testicles are responsible for sperm production and testosterone production˳ The testicles are located outside the body cavity and their temperature is lower than the rest of the body˳ Lower temperatures are important for the organs to function properly and for sperm production˳

Spermatogenesis is a complex, multi-step process involving the proliferation and differentiation of the seminiferous tubules into mature sperm˳ During spermatogenesis, the optimal temperature of the testicles is 2 to 4 degrees Celsius lower than body temperature˳

“This is why the testicles are placed in a scrotal sac outside the abdomen unlike other organs˳ Living in a high temperature environment and an unhealthy lifestyle can damage sperm,” says Dr˳ Khanh said˳

According to Harvard Health Publishing, there are some germ cells present in the testicles that work best at temperatures slightly below normal body temperature˳

When the temperature in the testicle area rises by 2-4 degrees, be it from a hot bath or other reasons, both sperm and testosterone production are affected˳

How to improve sperm quality?

Doctor Khanh pointed out that when taking a hot bath or soaking in a hot tub or jacuzzi, your body temperature will increase˳ Along with that, testicular cells also overheat which can affect sperm function and fertility˳

“Therefore, especially for men, it is advisable to avoid long hot baths and relax in hot tubs to avoid reducing fertility˳

Men should not discharge hot water directly into the testicles when bathing, but should discharge water from the back, when flushing the front part of the body, it is necessary to lower the water temperature so that the water is not too hot to affect the testicles˳ Dr˳ Khanh said˳

In addition, when having to work, live outside in the hot sun or exposed to heat sources for a long time, men also need to take measures to cool the testicles by using a cool water bottle or placing it in the area˳ testicular˳

Workers in some specific occupations such as chefs, welders, etc˳ need to avoid contacting the perineal area with high temperatures˳

Men should also choose to wear breathable fabrics like cotton to keep your genitals cool and not heat up˳ In addition, this helps prevent genital infections˳
