Quang Nam advises people not to eat dishes related to silage salted carp

On March 19, the Department of Health of Quang Nam province said it had just sent an official dispatch to strengthen measures to prevent and control food poisoning after many people in the mountainous district of Phuoc Son got botulinum poisoning after eating carp˳ pickled salt˳

According to this department, within ten days, from March 7, the health sector discovered poisoning cases related to silage salted carp˳ In which, the first case had 4 severe cases, 1 case later died in Phuoc Duc commune, Phuoc Son district˳

On March 17, a case of food poisoning continued to occur after eating silage salted carp in Phuoc Kim commune, Phuoc Son with 5 cases all had serious developments, of which 3 had to be mechanically ventilated˳

The Department of Health has directed to take food samples to send to the Pasteur Institute and conclude that the cause is related to bacteria Clostridium botulinum type E˳

Faced with the potential risk of poisoning due to people having a habit of using traditional foods such as fermented foods (silage carp), the Department of Health suggested localities, especially the high mountains, increasing information and communication on food safety knowledge to the people˳

Besides, it is recommended that people use safe food, do not eat processed dishes related to silage salted carp, suggest that people destroy silage if it is still at home; do not eat strange plants, potentially causing poisoning such as wild mushrooms, tubers, strange forest fruits, insects… Absolutely do not eat food of unknown origin˳

The Department also requested the Health Center of Phuoc Son district to continue to review cases related to the food poisoning case for early detection, emergency organization and timely treatment˳
