“We’ll die, but you won’t die of cancer”

It was the doctor’s statement that made Ms˳ Dang Thi Minh Nguyet (born in 1942, Hanoi) believe in the treatment regimen to defeat the evil cancer˳

Recalling 25 years ago, right at the time of retirement according to the state regime, at that time, Nguyet thought that she would have time to rest and take care of her husband and children, but a sudden illness struck˳

Before knowing she had colorectal cancer, Ms˳ Nguyet often suffered from digestive disorders˳ However, she thinks that with age, digestion is poor, as long as you pay attention to what you eat, there will be no problem˳ Until one day, when she had bloody stools, she decided to go to the hospital for examination˳

“I went to see a doctor at Saint Paul General Hospital, and they referred me to K Hospital˳ At that time, the doctor said that my digestive disease was not simple, most likely it was malignant cancer˳ At K Hospital, the doctor concluded that I had colorectal cancer˳

I think that just dying, having cancer is considered a death sentence˳ At that time, I was very confused,” Nguyet said˳

After that, Ms˳ Nguyet was directly treated by Doctor Doan Huu Nghi, former deputy director of K Hospital, vice president of Hanoi Cancer Association˳

“I always remember Dr˳ Nghi telling me: “We all have to die, but you won’t die of cancer˳” Thanks to that statement from Dr˳ Nghi, I believed that I would recover from the disease˳ overcome cancer and live healthy until today, “Ms˳ Nguyet confided˳

After that, Ms˳ Nguyet had surgery to remove colorectal cancer, radiation and chemotherapy treatment, and her health gradually stabilized˳ Over the past 25 years, Ms˳ Nguyet has maintained regular check-ups to monitor her health˳

Ms˳ Nguyet excitedly showed that after cancer treatment, she still participates in physical education and training, teaching nursing for neighborhood groups and elderly people’s associations˳

“The spirit of optimism, regular exercise, so life is fun, my health is always better,” said Mrs˳ Nguyet with a smile˳

The husband is ‘famous for taking good care of his wife’

Sitting next to her husband during a routine health checkup, Mrs˳ Nguyet held her husband’s hand and smiled and said, “I still remember her husband’s words at that time˳ Saying encouragement makes me more motivated to fight the disease˳”

Mr˳ Phan Si Lien, Nguyet’s husband, shared that before Nguyet got sick, he was also retired˳

“At that time, I was the deputy general director of the Transport Union of Region 1˳ After I retired, some parties also invited me to work part-time˳ A foreign company also offered to invite me to become an expert in assessing rolling stock˳ for their company, but when I heard that my wife was ill, I quit everything˳

I was also bewildered, at that time cancer was still something very terrible˳ But to encourage my wife, I told her to try to overcome it because Dr˳ Nghi said her illness could be cured,” said Mr˳ Lien˳

Accompanying his wife during treatment, Mr˳ Lien boasted: “Back then, everyone at the hospital knew me˳ Famous for taking good care of his wife˳ I simply thought that my wife was the mother of my children, a lover˳ I love myself, so I take care of it˳ I don’t even need my children to take care of her once˳”

Doctor Doan Huu Nghi said that 25 years ago, Ms˳ Nguyet was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at an early stage that had metastasized and indicated surgery˳ After surgery, the patient received chemotherapy and radiation therapy and responded well˳

“Perhaps, thanks to her husband’s optimistic spirit and thoughtful care, the patient overcame the illness and was able to live a healthy life for the past 25 years,” said Dr˳ Nghi˳

Cancer is no longer Cancer is no longer a ‘death sentence’, please don’t give up!

TTO – ‘I’m very happy to see my grandchildren again, some of them have worked, studied abroad, live healthy, the earliest treatment I have seen here is from 18 years ago and is now an adult’ – Dr˳ Bui Ngoc Lan, director of the Cancer Center of the National Children’s Hospital, said˳
